You know I've never said anything of the sort, and I wouldn't. If some amazing new player came and I came back and lost to him, I would either admit he is better, or practice more until I could defeat him (or both). I might have said things like that about other players (such as, "[insert old legend player name here] would have owned you in 200X!!") but, I've never used my peek skill as an excuse for my title.

Well, if by 'better' you mean "better than HolyLord ever was" , then we have a couple options to discover whether or not he's better. Let's say I come back and get back to my top skill (even if I didn't re-gain my full skill, I would never never use that as an excuse) and I play vs the new amazing player. Either I win or lose - If I win, well we have an answer. If I lose, we have an answer. This has happened many times throughout my history of going inactive and coming back.
Many years ago, after a long period of inactivity for me, after GSA lobby was closed, I came back, still expecting to easily destroy anybody. On my first day back, I played vs Masosz (who i used to defeat with only little difficulty). But this time, I lost. More than one in a row, too. I didn't make excuses or say I would have beaten him long ago. I admitted there and then that he was better than me. However, I played for a few more days and then came back and defeated him many times, without losing. (I also should have learned my lesson then, not to play vs top experts on first day back lol)
Many times I have gone inactive and come back. And all these times there was a new "best player", and every time I defeated this "new best player". This is why I very much understand the people who believe that I am the "best ever". This has been my track record since 2005ish until I left SHC in 2011. (Excuse my self-glorification, but it's only for purpose of conversation) -- I have been the one player who has shown such high consistency at top-notch levels of play, and have not been "dethroned" (for lack of a better word) since I took the title. Many players have come close, and closer, but not quite ever at or beyond my level of play (and even less when we take versatility into account, which is one of the broadest and more important parts of the game, almost no one but the few true top ever).
Is there some new amazing player I should know of?
On the note of the game skill, economic limit, and knowledge limit, this was reached well by 2006-2007. By that time, most of the top experts I was playing with played consistently at (or in many cases, better than -- particularly on other maps and rules) the level played at in GR today. There is nothing that is found in top expert play today that wasn't commonly present in top expert play in 07 or 08 or 09. (In fact, theres quite a lot missing today, in terms of general skill, knowledge, theory, and versatility) The major difference today is that it is so widespread (and mainly because of the pinpointing of the particular game style) for common players to be proficient in the most popular settings. Most of these commoners are not really great experts though, as you yourself will aknowledge.
TLDR:
point 1; people call me "the best ever" because of my consistency, accomplishments, and longstanding and rather unique track record for beating the top experts of every generation since 05ish. it's certainly possible the a "new amazing player" might come along and be better.
point 2: the level of shc reached a cap (amongst top experts, at least) many years ago. i dont think it is valid to utilize the game economic/knowledge limit to demean my reputation or title.
